Soul legend Patti LaBelle will perform at the annual N.C. A&T Alumni Homecoming Concert this fall.

LaBelle has been singing since the 1960s, when she was the lead singer of the band Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. The band later changed its name to LaBelle and recorded the iconic disco song “Lady Marmalade.”

As a solo singer, Patti LaBelle is best known for her songs “New Attitude,” “You Are My Friend,” “If Only You Knew” and “On My Own,” a duet with Michael McDonald.

Over her career, LaBelle has sold more than 50 million records, won multiple Grammy and NAACP Image awards, received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and been inducted into several musical halls of fame.

Opening the concert will be Mike Phillips, a saxophonist whose top 10 Billboard Jazz hits include "You have Reached Mike Phillips" and “Uncommon Denominator." Phillips has recorded and toured with Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Prince.

The event will be held Oct. 6 at the Koury Convention Center. The night will start with a buffet reception at 7:45 p.m. followed by the concert at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for the general admission concert go on sale Aug. 14. Call A&T’s Office of Alumni Affairs at 336-433-5570 for more information.

The Alumni Homecoming Concert is part of the university’s week-long homecoming celebration that runs from Oct. 1 through Oct. 8.
